Sony TV Reviews 2017/2018
Once one of the brand names possessing a ubiquitous presence in the global TV market, Sony lost ground to its more agile and fleet-footed competitors but recently, a resurgence seems to be in the works. The plan according to the brand is to cut down on its offerings to a manageable few and focus on the 4K, High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Android TV range. In a move similar to its competitors, Sony will also ditch the 3D TV range in favor of the 4K TVs but unlike Samsung, the company is not pushing for a ‘Curved TV’ range, keeping just one model and at that, solely in Europe.
How Sony Stacks up Against the Competition
Considering Sony’s boast of outstanding picture quality, this should be the first test. Using black level, contrast and black uniformity as parameters, Sony slightly edged out Samsung and Vizio. This may well be a validation of its claims. Motion handling and sports viewing again handed another ‘win’ to Sony while upscaling 4K nudged the brand further ahead of Samsung and Vizio. Audio quality is obviously not Sony’s forte and it lost ground to competitors like Vizio in this area.
What Sony Brings to the Table
LED LCD TechnologySony has established the LED LCD technology as a staple for its TVs in 2016 and it should apply going forward, at least till the technology is phased out.
HDR CompatibilitySony’s objective is to invest significantly in taking the picture quality of its TVs to another level and to this end, not only is 4K becoming a standard, HDR compatibility is also to be a feature. This will enable consumer’s stream and enjoy HDR content from Sony.
BacklightingDynamic darkening and lightening of parts of the TV screen to enhance peak brightness as well as black levels while optimizing contrast to produce the best possible picture quality.
Flat DesignThis is an aspect of its design that Sony strives to maintain. Slimness has become an attribute of the Sony brand.

Sony TVs 2017 – Features and Technologies
The annual Consumer Electronics Show was held during January and Sony revealed how their televisions would look like in this year’s event. Sony was able to gain much attention during CSE 2017 because of the impressive technologies that they have introduced to their latest televisions. These televisions would be made available for general public in 2017.
Out of the cutting edge products that were introduced by Sony, the Sony’s OLED TVs hold a prominent place. Sony has the ability to emit audio from its own screen. No other television out there in the market has the ability to do it. In fact, no other television manufacturer has been able to come closer to this technology.
Since the Sony OLED TVs have the ability to emit sound out of its screen, the folks at Sony have got the opportunity to get rid of the speakers on the bezel. This has helped them to deliver an appealing look to the television as well. Having TV speakers on bezels have the ability to ruin the elegant appearance of modern world televisions. The folks at Sony have been able to come up with the perfect solution for it. This concept would definitely become popular in the future.
A Series – Sony OLED TVs
Sony has named this innovative technology as Dubbed Acoustic Surface technology. It is powered up by two transducers, which are located right behind the screen. In fact, these transducers give life to 3D soundscaping. With the introduction of this new technology, it has become possible to pair the objects on the screen along with audio. This can give life to an illusionist effect and you would feel like the objects are emitting their own sounds. Therefore, it would deliver a more realistic experience to you.
The new technology has the ability to give life to a variety of immersive possibilities as well. For example, the sounds can be aligned in such a way so that they would come right out of the mouth of actors.
The latest televisions of Sony are powered by OLED technology as well. As a result, the designers have been able to make the televisions look extremely thin. The televisions are thin even with having all the soundscaping components packed in. Therefore, you will not have to worry about anything when you are investing money on a new Sony OLED TVs.
The picture quality of Sony televisions have also been improved significantly. For example, the OLED 4K televisions can deliver 8 million self-lit pixels. It comes along with perfect black levels and enhanced colors. Moreover, it is possible to find the newest 4K HDR Processor X1 in these televisions. This is 40% faster when compared to the previous HDR processor of Sony, which was released back in 2016. It is compatible with the new HDR format of Dolby as well. Therefore, it can clearly be seen that Sony is looking forward to deliver a unique experience to the people with their latest lineup of televisions for 2017.
If there is a buzzword for Sony this year, it has to be picture quality and Sony unveiled a decent number of picture related features. One of the most exciting has got to be its ‘Ultra’ App which is actually a movie streaming service which allows consumers to stream movies in 4K format. Additionally, Sony launched its ‘Triluminous’ technology which basically allows the TV to reproduce far more colors than the regular televisions. The Android TV operating system formally became a part of the Sony TV family and the brand has updated all its 2015 and 2016 TVs to run Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).

Sony X930E is one of the greatest High End LED televisions with top line of impressive quality of picture. It is considered to be one of the brightest televisions that you should have and does an excellent job especially when it comes to HDR. It even covers everything exceptional such as input lags and motions.
The design of Sony X930E is really impressive. As you take a look at the front part of this television, you will find out that its familiar stand highlights minimalistic look. If you want to benefit from the features that Sony X930E offers, then don’t miss the opportunity to spend time, effort and money purchasing this television. You are rest assured that when you buy this one, you will never regret choosing this television over others.Sony X930E Review
Still great, but less expensive TVs 2016
PERFECTION! It is a word that makes humanity work, sweat, and bring achievement! The technological achievement of the X930D TVs is the Sony engineers claim to ‘fame.’ The first thing you are going to notice is the thin case. This makes this TV easy to mount on wall or stand on table with its sturdy wide stand. The glossy screen makes these series TVs anti-reflective of room lighting. The best ‘perfect’ in the X930Ds series of either 55-inch or 65-inch screens is COLOR. Color, such as Dorothy of the ‘Wizard of Oz’ saw when her home was transported over the rainbow, if you don’t mind a little hyperbole (slight exaggeration) Expect SHARP and bright color with the latest 4K screen resolution and HDR (high dynamic range) technology. All this perfection at prices that are unbelievably perfect for all you are getting of latest TV technology.
The Sony X930D 120 Hz fps (frames per second) refresh rate makes motion blur a non-issue for sports fans and the Motionflow technology set on True Cinema with Cinemotion set on high brings ‘judder free’ home theater. The one negative is sound quality. A sound bar or sound system purchase would bring sound up to par.Sony X930D Review
Great 4K TV
At last, the perfect TV technology for sports and gaming! Sony’s X850D series provides the technological features wanted in four different screen sizes: 55,65,75 and a huge 85-inch screen! All Sony X850D TVs come as 4K LED. The LED means light emitting diode, in case you want to impress anyone with big words. Basically, that means you see the color image because of a light panel behind the screen (backlighting) Sony 850D 4K screen resolution is four times the number of pixels (dots of color) as 1080p which makes for very sharp image clarity. This sharpness, coupled with 120hz refresh rate, provides a superior viewing experience when watching the fast action of sport games or playing video games as motion blur is minimal.
When viewed at angle the color view stays same as direct view, however, color contrast in general is average. Viewing with average room lighting rather than dark room recommended. Sound quality would benefit from a sound bar to level sound volume. The X850D has nice Smart TV features with 4 HDMI ports and 3 USB ports for connecting to video external devices to give abundance of streaming content.Sony X850D Review
Best Affordable Picture Quality
The X940D Sony series does fit the category of high-end television. Only the more costly LG’s OLED TVs outdo the X940D in color quality. The X940D is same series technology as the Sony X930D models so I won’t repeat the words. One difference: The X940D edge lit LED lighting is enhanced with full array backlighting. Thank the brightness of the color on the Quantum Dot technology which brings the multiple pixels of color to be placed near to the edge lit light panels so that the light shines direct through the colors in a brilliance outmatched only by this technical engineering.
The X940D’s local dimming feature can lower the bright areas of screen as your eye thinks best. As an extra plus to high end TV, X940Ds like the X930D does have 3D capability. The X940D, like the X930D, comes with certification of superior blacks and contrast ratio. Viewing X940Ds from an angle will not distort the color image except when sitting at an extreme angle so do not be afraid to invite the whole gang to a spectacular SuperBowl party to gather around your X940D. The sound quality is major – but minor flaw that purchase of sound bar / sound system can alleviate.Sony X940D Review
Best Cheap Sony TV
The Sony WD650 is rated above average in the essentials of a quality TV viewing experience with a price that works for the average family. The kids will love the smooth motion in gaming thanks to Sony’s Motionflow XR240 technology that brings motion blur to a minimum. Mom and dad will love viewing their young one’s on ‘the big screen’ thanks to mirroring technology that downloads photos and video from Smart Phone to a magnificent wide screen, and there’s no longer reason to be bored with TV with the WiFi internet connection to Amazon Video, Hulu and Hulu Plus, NetFlix, and YouTube.
The color and contrast is sharp and clear with up-to-date 1080p resolution befitting HD LED TV. It’s not the ideal TV for viewing sports but Dad will be happy to see basketball, baseball, and football in big screen glory – in the comfort of his favorite recliner in well-lit living room.Sony W650D Review
